Likes & Dislikes

Things I Like:
  • Google Chrome*
  • Red Carpet fashion- The Oscars are coming up and I can barely contain myself. To whet your fashion appetites, here's some wardrobe highlights from last year's Academy Awards, and here is a generally** accurate slideshow overview of the Oscars' best and worst of all time.
  • Ikea
  • Gin Buckets - they are the recipe for instant fun***
Things I Dislike:

* Until now, I wasn't sure I bought into the idea that one good browser was better than another. Sure, Safari is infinitely superior to, say, Microsoft's awful Internet Explorer, however, I've always found well engineered browsers like Safari and Firefox to be largely interchangeable. Then I tried Chrome. And holy shit, it's awesome.

** I say generally because, obviously, the slideshow makes a few mistakes. For example, Halle Berry's 2002 dress does not qualify as one of 'the best'. In fact, I'm inclined to categorize it as one of 'the worst'. Because it's hideous.

***Ingredients: 1 large bucket, turkey basters, 1 quart of gin, and 2 liters of Fresca. Put gin and Fresca into bucket. Mix. Invite friends. Pour into each others' mouths by way of the turkey basters. Repeat. A lot.

**** Now, I know I tend to stay away from politics and that when I do brave the political seas, I generally sympathize with the center-right Democratic position that Mr. Grayson supports. That said, I can't really pinpoint what it is about him I find so repugnant. Possible suspects include his disgusting dye job, or the fact that he's a horse's ass

***** To be fair, Ikea does own a 12 acre plot of land just outside of Denver but as of now, construction is not scheduled to start until 2012. In my humble opinion, the mirage of an Ikea just out of reach is a huge tease. Honestly, it might be worse than no Ikea at all.

Things I Like:
  • Celebrities* who give their children real names: Personally, I just don't follow the school of though that allows famous people to name kids things like Blanket or Pilot Inspecktor.
  • True love**
  • Glee: I love this show so much that I catch myself wishing that they'd just release the DVD instead of making me wait 7 days between episodes. Those bitches.
  • Crate & Barrel***
Things I Dislike:
  • Canned tuna
  • The whole Jon & Kate drama: I just feel bad for the kids and I'd offer to boycott all tabloids that feature them on the cover except for the fact that I just don't have that kind of self control.
  • Horror movies: Horror movies are either so bad that you want to subject yourself to a gruesome death rather than watch them, or scary. I'm sorry but neither option really appeals to me.
  • Milk as a beverage****

* Sarah Michelle Gellar recently gave birth to her first, a baby girl called Charlotte Grace. Lovely and normal name, right? Anyway, I thought it was interesting that such an obscure celebrity keeps cropping up in my 'likes' column-- I featured her a while ago for owning a non-puntable dog. So yeah, kudos to her.

** I got so overwhelmed trying to elaborate on this that I think I have to do a whole entry devoted to true love. So yeah, coming soon.. or something.

*** While Crate & Barrel takes the cake because of their exclusive marimekko designs (see above link/ picture of bedspread for proof), this like also applies to Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, West Elm, and [obviously] IKEA.

****As an accompaniment to cereal? Sure. As a component in yogurt? Great. Pancakes? Awesome. Ice Cream? Yes, please. By itself? Absolutely not. I'm sorry but that's just fucking disgusting.

Things I Dislike:
  • Whaling. And dolphin hunting. And the Japanese government for allowing it. If you're undecided on the matter, go see The Cove.
  • Bono. Bono. Bono.
  • People who can't be bothered to put the toilet paper roll on the toilet paper holder. Number one, it's just effing lazy. Number two, how much effort does it really take to make the switch-- like, none. And number three, if you're not going to change out the rolls, then why have a toilet paper holder in the first place? Why?

* The kid in the video at the top of the post, dummies.
** Multiple Choice-- this kid is, a) one of those weird home schooled kids, b) the most adorable child alive, c) gay, d) all of the above, or e) none of the above

Likes & Dislikes

I have a few themed posts around (In case you were wondering..., Words to live by), but I thought of a new thread that I've dubbed Likes & Dislikes. I'm going to give you all the benefit of the doubt and explain it no further than that.
Things I Like:
Things I Dislike:
  • Anything with more than four legs***
  • Scandinavian words with too many letters and too many consonants in close proximity to each other. (example: begravningsentreprenör = mortician, uppehållstillstånd = housing permit)
  • Skin cancer
  • Mercedes-Benz

* By real dog, I mean any dog that is not puntable. Sarah Michelle Gellar's Akita weighs in at about 100 lbs and is, all in all, a baller (see photo). Ashley Tisdale's Maltese weighs in at less than 7 pounds and I could probably kill it by staring at it too hard. I understand that they're cute and good companions and practical but I'm sorry, if I can dropkick it, it's not real.

** All flavors except Chunky Monkey. The fact that Ben & Jerry's would soil the most delicious of all delicious treats with something so filthy and disgusting as a banana is a hideous scar on an otherwise unblemished record of deliciousness.

*** This does not apply to sea-dwelling crustaceans (shrimp, lobster, crab) that are dead and prepared and in or about to be in my mouth.
